Abstract
The modern Ukrainian spelling was born in the 19th century. The scientists and writers had to deal with two different groups of questions: the first set of issues was related to Ukrainian linguistic features, the other set was pure ly orthographic . Facts reveal that the solution of the first set of problems was much simpl er.
