Abstract

Kozma Ferenc Agricultural Technical College Sports Hall, Mezőhegyes, Hungary; Architects: Daw Építész Stúdió. Faced with the challenge of placing a modern sports facility within the fabric of a traditional rural town opens the question of the need for a large, single use volume, or a more complex use of space. To reduce volume this building has been sunk into the landscape with a roof line sculpted to match its neighbours, contemporary use of traditional materials, for example, timber in the form of CLT panels brings a softness to the form that offset its raw concrete elements. The multipurpose hall does not serve a singular sporting activity, therefore increasing the chances of community interaction as a social venue.
