Abstract

Corvin János alakja legalább annyira – ha nem jobban – foglalkoztatta a közvéleményt, mint manapság. A tanulmány azt mutatja be, hogy a Corvin János és fia, Kristóf lepoglavai nyughelye körüli érdeklődés hogyan csapódott le a sajtóban és a tudományos életben. A felröppenő híreknek, tudósításoknak köszönhetően rávetült a figyelem az apa, a legendás Mátyás király árnyékába szoruló uralkodói sarjra, s akinek kibontakozását elsősorban a Mátyás-korabeli hazai előkelőségek lehetetlenítették el. Corvin János történelmi jelentősége inkább Bosznia-Hercegovina térségében értékelődött fel, különösen a 19. században ébredő nemzeti történeti tudatban. Azonban a magyarországi tudósok az időszak legkorszerűbb tudományos ismeretei szintjén, annak is élvonalbeli képviselői eredtek a Hunyadiutódok nyomába. Emellett sokuknak volt hitelt érdemlő értesülésük, de az nem vált részévé a kezük közül kikerülő szakirodalomnak, s ha nincs egy elszánt életrajzíró, örökre feledésbe merültek volna. Továbbá keserű tanúsága a kutatásnak azzal a – köztudott – szomorú ténnyel való szembesülés, hogy a magyar levéltári állományban pótolhatatlan hézagok keletkeztek a különböző háborús károk következtében. Bár a 19. századi lepoglavai sírbontásoknak maradtak elvarratlan szálai, mégis a kitartó nyomozás meghozta az eredményt. | The figure of János Corvin interested the public of the time at least as much – if not more – than it does today. This study describes how the interest in the resting place of János Corvin and his son Kristóf in Lepoglava was reflected in the press and in academic life. Thanks to the news and reports circulating, attention was focused on the royal heir who had been overshadowed by his father, the legendary King Matthias, and whose development was mainly hindered by the Hungarian nobility of the Matthias era. The historical significance of János Corvin was more appreciated in the region of Bosnia and Herzegovina, especially in the national historical consciousness that was awakening in the 19th century. However, leading Hungarian scholars at the forefront of the most up-to-date scientific knowledge of the period started to trace the Hunyadi descendants. In addition, many of them had credible information, but it did not become part of the literature they authored, and had it not been for a determined biographer, the information would have been consigned to oblivion. Furthermore, the sad and well-known fact that there are irreplaceable lacunae in the Hungarian archives due to the various war damages is a grim testimony to the research. Although there were loose ends left to be tied up in the 19th-century Lepoglava grave openings, persistent investigation has yielded a result.
