Abstract
This paper explores the applicability of Gödel’s incompleteness theoremto political theory by examining critiques of Max Weber’s principle ofvalue neutrality. It analyses the positions of Leo Strauss and MichaelPolanyi, arguing that their critiques function as game-theoreticalequivalents of Gödelian propositions – true statements that cannot beformally proven within a given system. The study demonstrates howStrauss’s notion of the “crisis of modernity” and Polanyi’s idea of “personalknowledge” challenge the epistemological assumptions of Weberianrationalism. By linking formal logic with political philosophy, the paperproposes a new analytical framework for understanding the limits ofvalue-neutrality in political science. It concludes by advocating forepistemological pluralism and the recognition of moral truth claimsbeyond formal systems.
