Abstract
In Hungary investigations on the virus diseases of woody plants, including grapevine, fruit trees, forest trees and shrubs began to come into prominence relatively late, in the 1960s. To our best knowledge the grapevine is infected by eight nepoviruses, four air-borne viruses and three so far not exactly identified viruses. In the fruit trees of Hungary 19 virus- and 3 mycoplasma diseases are known, of which seven viruses are properly characterized. From 21 forest tree species and shrubs 13 viruses have been exactly identified, while in the case of 18 virus infected plants the pathogens have not been identified, or their identification is in process.
