Abstract
The command and control system of NATO's joint operations requires large scale command posts, large numbers of stuff, and spacious, big sized infrastructure that even to operate are cumbersome, but also are an extremely attractive target for the adversary due to its extensive infrastructure and large supporting staff. The Alliance will face unpredictable challenges in the future, extending beyond traditional operational domains such as space and cyberspace. On top of that, the operations will extent to the full spectrum of operations, that is from low-intensity peacetime military engagement to high-intensity war conflict. These trends will further increase the size of the command posts. This paper presents the requirements for future operational staffs and command posts, while trying to find answers to emerging challenges.
