Abstract

Az orális egészség elhanyagolása számos helyi és szisztémás megbetegedéshez vezethet, de kevesen tudják, hogy a demencia kialakulásában is szerepet játszhat olyan módon, hogy a szájüregi mikrobák a véráram útján bejuthatnak az agyba, ahol a neuronok károsodását idézhetik elő, amelynek következménye lehet a kognitív funkciók károsodása. Már csak ezért is nagyon fontos hangsúlyt fektetni a helyes szájhigiénére minden életkori csoportban. Elengedhetetlen minden korosztály rendszeres fogászati ellenőrzése, helyes szájápolásra való oktatása, és különös hangsúlyt kell fektetni az idősekre is, akik hajlamosak fogazatukat elhanyagolni. | Neglecting oral health can lead to a number of local and systemic diseases, but few people know that it can also play a role in the development of dementia, in that oral microbes can enter the brain through the bloodstream, where they can cause damage to neurons, resulting in impaired cognitive function. For this reason alone, it is very important to emphasize good oral hygiene in all age groups. Regular dental check-ups and education on good oral care for all ages are essential, and special emphasis should be placed on the elderly, who tend to neglect their teeth.
