Abstract

Ten years of scientific journal publication rarely provide sufficient data for comprehensive analysis, especially in the case of a young journal that is still finding its footing. Ecocycles is an exception to this rule: thanks to the conscious efforts of the editorial board and the coherent expansion of the journal's thematic scope, a wealth of data and content has been accumulated that allows for a detailed examination of publication and author patterns, thematic orientations, and the utilization of publications. The study not only evaluates the first ten years of Ecocycles but also provides a method and example of how to analyze the operation of a relatively new scientific journal in a methodologically sound manner, on multiple levels and within multiple interpretative frameworks. The procedures and lessons presented here can be adapted for other journals, especially those seeking to position themselves in the scientific field along the lines of interdisciplinarity, transdisciplinarity and sustainability. The results of the research have shown that the evaluation of scientific publications cannot be reduced to purely quantitative indicators, but must also take into account the format, accessibility, and social context of scientific communication. As an open access journal, Ecocycles aligns itself with the new norms of scientific communication and dissemination in this sense, and is increasingly becoming part of a global scientific system characterized by openness, interactivity, and a unique interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary approach.
