Abstract

„Nincs különbség a fúró és a vasaló között: az elsőt tolni, a másodikat nyomni kell” – fogalmazott egy gyermekével otthon maradó apa az egyik interjúban, amely e kötet alapjául szolgált. A gyermekükkel otthon maradó apák vizsgálata, bár elsőre egy szűk társadalmi csoport kutatásának tűnik, valójában olyan alapvető kérdésekre irányítja rá a figyelmet, mint a női és férfiszerepek változása, a szülőség kihívásai és a családok helyzete a mai magyar társadalomban. Mindezek gyorsan átalakuló társadalmi terepek, ahol a folyamatok megértése nemcsak tudományos értelemben, de a családok jóllétét támogató szakpolitikák kialakítása szempontjából is kiemelt jelentőségű. A hiánypótló kötet átfogó módon mutatja be a gyermekükkel otthon lévő magyar apák és családjuk élethelyzetét, tapasztalatait. A szociológiai fogalmakat tudományos pontossággal, ugyanakkor közérthetően megismertető, olvasmányos monográfiát nem csak a témával foglalkozó kutatók, hanem az érdeklődő laikusok is élvezettel forgathatják. | What does it mean to be a father in Hungary today? How is the role of fatherhood changing in a society where caregiving is traditionally associated with mothers, while more and more fathers are now playing an active, even primary role in raising their children? Focusing on Hungarian fathers who stay at home with their children, the monograph offers a comprehensive account of their families’ life situations, grounded in extensive theoretical and empirical research and embedded in the context of family policy and the broader social environment. Through interviews with fathers and data collection involving mothers, it provides a nuanced picture of the transformation of the fathers’ role, new forms of division of labour within the family, and the challenges of balancing work and private life. The volume thus fills a gap not only for sociologists and social researchers, but also for anyone interested in changing parental roles. A wider readership, including current and future parents, can gain a nuanced, multi-faceted understanding of a situation that is still relatively rare in contemporary Hungarian society presenting both challenges and opportunities.
