Abstract

This study explores the reproduction of urban spaces through processes of reading and editing, while deciphering the fragmentations in urban morphology. The aim is to understand the concepts of scale, relation and simulation of urban forms and functions to develop more informed, efficient and responsive design and planning strategies. The study provides methods to analyze and intervene in existing urban areas in historic cities, which are left uncompleted for specific social, political, and economic reasons, or their spatial formation is interrupted. These methods are applied to identify the problems and potentials of specific urban fragments and propose the modes and scales of intervention, using the city of Gjirokastra in Albania as a case study.
