Abstract
The performance Tschandala offers a queer theatrical reading that attempts to deconstruct not only Roma identity but also the complexity of social and cultural contexts. The performance’s language, the fragmentation of its narrative, and the application of queer aesthetics allow for an intersectional examination of identity. The interplay between Larsson’s subjective storytelling and his critique of social norms offers a radical reinterpretation, both in form and content, which challenges traditional narratives and structures. While reflecting on historical and societal injustices, the performance creates a performative, self-representational act that reconstructs both queer theory and Roma identity from a political standpoint.
