Abstract

A magyar és a mongol hagyományban is megtalálható az a legenda, amely szerint két vadászt egy szarvas vezet el arra a helyre, ahol később kolostort alapítanak. Első pillantásra ez a párhuzam a legenda magyar változatának keleti eredetét látszik alátámasztani. A mongol legenda gyökerei azonban elsősorban nem a sztyeppei kultúrában keresendők, hanem inkább az indiai buddhista hagyományokra vezethetők vissza: az állatok szenvedésére adott irgalmas cselekedet motívumára. Mivel ez az eszme a 13. század előtt aligha kerülhetett be a mongol kultúrába, a két legenda között – hasonlóságaik ellenére – nem feltételezhető közvetlen történeti kapcsolat. | Two hunters are led by a deer to a place where they later founded a monastery. This legend can be found both in the Hungarian and Mongolian traditions. At first glance, this could be a proof of the Eastern origin of the Hungarian version of this legend. But the roots of the Mongolian legend do not have origin of the steppe-culture, but can rather be chased back to India, to the Buddhist tradition (to perform some kind of merciful act in the wake of the suffering of an animal). So, this idea could not have gotten into Mongolian culture before the 13th century. Thus, we are unlikely to have a real connection between these legends, despite them being very similar.
