Abstract

A 2025-ben második magyar íróként Nobel-díjjal elismert Krasznahorkai László művei a hivatalos indoklás szerint „az apokaliptikus terror közepette mutatják meg a művészet erejét”. Ez az írás röviden áttekinti az író pályáját, majd kiemel két olyan összefüggést, amely a magyar irodalomtudomány számára ad megfontolnivalót Krasznahorkai díjazása nyomán. Az életmű fontos fordulópontja az 1990-es évekre tehető: innentől Krasznahorkai globálisabb közegben teszi mérlegre a tér- és időbeli idegenség tapasztalat formáit. Krasznahorkai epikai világának széles körű nemzetközi elismerése mindenekelőtt két összefüggésben késztethet elméleti, módszertani, akár történeti megfontolásokra. Egyfelől azt a kérdést veti fel, hogy milyen módszertani kihívásokat jelent a nemzeti irodalomtörténet-írás számára a mai, globalizált világirodalom intézménye és nyilvánossága. Másodszor epika és magaskultúra viszonyának problémájával szembesít. Miközben a kortárs próza arculatát sok tekintetben olyan alkotások határozzák meg, amelyek az artisztikus próza és a populáris olvasmány közötti határt átjárhatónak mutatják, Krasznahorkai életművével ezúttal olyan prózanyelv részesült elismerésben, amely a magas művészet létjogosultsága mellett tesz tanúbizonyságot. | According to the official statement announcing the 2025 Nobel Prize in Literature, the work of László Krasznahorkai, the second Hungarian writer to be awarded, demonstrates the power of art “in the midst of apocalyptic terror”. This article briefly reviews the author’s career, before highlighting two aspects that provide Hungarian literary scholars food for thought in the wake of the award. A significant turning point in Krasznahorkai’s oeuvre can be traced to the early 1990s, when he began to weigh the forms of spatial and temporal alienation in a global context. The widespread international recognition of Krasznahorkai’s epic world prompts theoretical, methodological, and even historical considerations in two contexts in particular. Firstly, it raises the question of the methodological challenges posed by the institution and publicity of today’s globalized world literature for the writing of national literary history. Secondly, it confronts us with the problem of the relationship between prose fiction and high culture. While the canonical image of contemporary prose is in many respects defined by works that blur the line between artistic prose and popular reading, Krasznahorkai’s oeuvre has earned recognition for a prose style that attests to the legitimacy of high art.
