Abstract
This study analyses the organizational framework of the first wave of Jewish deportations from Slovakia in 1942, with a specific focus on transit camps. Beránek examines antisemitic legislation in the Slovak State, the implementation of the Jewish Codex, and the administrative preparations for deportation. The article reconstructs the functioning and capacity of the five main transit camps—Poprad, Sereď, Nováky, Žilina and Bratislava‑Patrónka—and their logistical integration into the deportation system. Particular attention is paid to the contrast between official propaganda and survivor testimonies. The study highlights the active involvement of the Hlinka Guard in guarding, confiscation and violence. It concludes that transit camps were essential instruments in facilitating deportations and concealing genocidal intent.
