Abstract

The racer goby (Babka gymnotrachelus) was first recorded in the Hungarian section of the Tisza River in 2018 (between 173 and 244 rkm, in several locations). By 2019, it was also detected in the tributaries. Between 2018 and 2024, the species advanced 137 rkm upstream in the Tisza. Its spread rate along the Tisza and its tributaries averaged 26.4 rkm/year (ranging from 23 to 31 rkm/year), which is considerably higher than the spread rates observed for the western tubenose goby (Proterorhinus semilunaris, 6–8 rkm/year) and the monkey goby (Neogobius fluviatilis; 4–6 rkm/year) in the Tisza basin. The racer goby has colonized the Tisza not only upstream but also downstream. In 2023, it was first detected in the Hungarian section of the Szamos River, but since no ichthyofaunistical surveys had been conducted on this section since 2021, its appearance can be attributed to the period between 2022 and 2023. Moving downstream, by 2024, the racer goby was found throughout the upper section of the Tisza (between 685 and 454 rkm). The last available data for the upper Tisza dates from 2021, so it can only be concluded that between 2023 and 2024, the species advanced 281 rkm downstream in the Szamos and Tisza rivers. Our findings suggest that juvenile individuals (SL = 30–45 mm) colonize the new river stretches in both upstream and downstream sections of the rivers. Based on the observed distribution patterns of the racer goby, further spread of the species is anticipated across the Tisza River System. This expansion is likely to significantly impact the native benthic fish communities in the affected habitats, with potential consequences for species such as the gudgeon, ruffe, and bullhead. | A csupasztorkú géb (Babka gymnotrachelus) a Tisza magyarországi szakaszáról először 2018-ban került elő (173 és 244 fkm között, több helyen). 2019-ben már a mellékfolyókból is sikerült kimutatni. 2018 és 2024 évek között a Tisza folyón 137 fkm haladt felfelé. Terjedési sebessége a Tisza folyón és mellékfolyóin évente átlagosan 26,4 fkm (23-31 fkm/év között), mely jóval nagyobb érték, mint amit a tarka géb (6-8 fkm/év) és a folyami géb (4-6 fkm/év) esetében a Tisza vízgyűjtőjén tapasztaltunk. A csupasztorkú géb a Tiszát nem csak alulról, hanem felülről is kolonizálta. 2023-ban került elő a Szamos magyarországi szakaszán, de ott 2021 óta nem volt vizsgálva a halfauna, azaz megjelenése 2022 és 2023 közötti időszakra tehető. Innen lefelé haladva 2024-ben a csupasztorkú géb a Tisza felső szakaszán (685 és 454 fkm között) mindenütt előfordult. Utoljára 2021-ből vannak a Tisza felső szakaszáról adatok, így csak azt tudjuk megállapítani, hogy 2022 és 2024 között 281 fkm haladt lefelé a Szamoson és Tiszán. Eredményeink arra utalnak, hogy felfelé és a lefelé is az ivadékok (SL= 30-45 mm) kolonizálják a folyószakaszokat. A csupasztorkú géb elterjedési mintázatai alapján a faj további terjedése várható a Tisza vízrendszerében. Ez a terjeszkedés valószínűleg jelentősen befolyásolja az érintett élőhelyek őshonos bentikus halközösségeit, aminek lehetséges következményei lehetnek olyan fajokra, mint a küllő, a durbincs és a kölönte fajok.
