Abstract

The author presents results of the Hungarian Waterfowl Monitoring referring to the season 2000/2001. This treatment does not cover geese, the latter being the subject of another publication. Basic data obtained at the 49 sites (Table 1., Map 1.) are presented for each observed site in Table 2-24. The tables are followed by statements concerning each of the species in regard of stock size (Hungary total), stock dynamics (Hungary total), territorial dispersion of each species, dynamics characteristic for the certain Sites of observations, and on the basis of maximum numbers of various species at the respective sites: designation of areas bearing international importance according to Ramsar 3C Critérium. The facts mentioned afore are presented for each of the species by means of figures, tables and maps (Figure 1-55., Table 25-54., Map 2-31.) In the framework of the HUNGARIAN WATERFOWL MONITORING performed in 2000/2001 we did not obtain data on the following species: Great Northern Diver (Gavia immer), Bewick’s Swan (Cygnus columbianus), Brent Goose (Branta leucopsis). Marbled Teal (Marmaronetta angustirostris), Eider (Somateria millissima), King Eider (Somateria spectabilis), Long-tailed Duck (Clangula hyemalis), Common Scoter (Melanitta nigra) and White-headed Duck (Oxyura leucocephala). Lack of data on the 9 species listed above is due to the fact that on the days of synchron counts no individuals of these species were to be seen. As the results of the Hungarian Goose Monitoring are assessed separately, the present paper comprises the results of observations on 34 species. The following part of the report deals with the role of various species and groups of species played in the waterfowl communities of the individual sites (Table 55-77., Figure 56.). In the latter issue data on geese are included, too, otherwise the statement obtained would be incomplete. Categories covered by the tables: divers (búvárok), grabes (vöcskök), cormorants (kárókatonák), herons (gémfélék), swans (hattyúk), geese (libák), shelducks (ásóludak), dabbling ducks (úszórécék), diving ducks (bukórécék), eagle (réti sas), coot (szárcsa) and crane (daru). The order of rank of observed waterfowl species as well as the dynamics of the order (Table 78-81.) shows clearly whether species declared huntable are really those with highest numbers. In the report international significance of each site is defined according to Ramsar 3C Critérium (Chapter 4.3). For each site those species are listed on the basis of which the afore mentioned statement hase been made
