Abstract

The author treats the observation data of waterbirds of the Somogy section of the Dráva River for the period between March 1983 and April 1999. The observations include the following taxa: Gaviiformes, Podicipediformes, Pelecaniformes, Ciconiiformes, Anseriformes, Gruiformes (Fulica), Charadriiformes (Larus). He divided the Somogy Dráva River section into 11 units, and he analyzed the observation data obtained there. It was possible to prove the existence of 45 bird species on the study area obtained during 327 observation days. Through the period of 1996-1999, 27 waterbird species were noted on the Bacs-Szentborbás Dráva River section during 27 observation days. Only the mallard was noted at each occasion, and an other three species (cormorant, grey heron an teal) occurred at 70% of the time during the period in question. At one occasion a maximum number of 18 species and maximum number of 7785 birds were observed. In total, 46,176 individuals were observed during the 27 observation days, of which 72 2% occurred in sections No. 9-10-11. Therefore the Tótújfalu-Szentborbás section of the Dráva River may be considered very significant for this area. Most frequently, paleartic (16 species) and holartic (10 species) elements of the fauna were found in the study area. They were followed by old world (6 species) and arctic (5 species) faunistic elements, than turkestan-mediteranian (3 species), cosmopolitan and sarmata (2-2 species) elements. One nearctic species gave some color to the composition of the fauna.
