Abstract

A tanulmány Vincenzo Pimpinella rossanói érsek és pápai nuncius életútját, valamint 1529 és 1532 közötti mûködését vizsgálja. Pimpinella Burgio nuncius utódjaként már nem Budán, hanem elsõsorban Ferdinánd király udvarában fejtette ki tevékenységét. Elemzi a nuncius humanista mûveltségét, karrierjét és a római Kúriában betöltött szerepét. Bemutatja továbbá az oszmán háborúkkal kapcsolatos elképzeléseit és diplomáciai feladatait. Külön figyelmet kap az 1530-as augsburgi birodalmi gyûlésen elmondott beszéde, amelyben a keresztény összefogás szükségességét hangsúlyozta. Pimpinella egyik legfontosabb feladata a Magyar Királyságról és az oszmán veszélyrõl szóló információk továbbítása volt Róma számára. A nuncius a magyar rendekkel is kapcsolatot tartott: Habsburg Ferdinánd és Szapolyai János közti küzdelmekben közvetítõ szerepet vállalt, és meghívást kapott a magyar rendek király nélküli gyûléseire is. Pimpinella mûködése jól tükrözi az oszmánellenes védelem központi szerepét a korabeli szentszéki diplomáciában. | The study examines the life and activity of Vincenzo Pimpinella, archbishop of Rossano and papal nuncio, between 1529 and 1532. As the successor of nuncio Burgio, Pimpinella no longer operated in Buda, but primarily at the court of King Ferdinand. The article analyses the nuncio’s humanist education, his career, and his role within the Curia. It also presents his ideas concerning the Ottoman wars and his diplomatic responsibilities. Special attention is devoted to the speech he delivered at the Diet of Augsburg in 1530, in which he emphasized the necessity of Christian unity. One of Pimpinella’s most important duties was to provide Rome with information concerning the Kingdom of Hungary and the Ottoman threat. The nuncio also maintained close relations with the Hungarian estates: he attempted to mediate in the conflict between Ferdinand of Habsburg and John Szapolyai, and he was invited to the assemblies of the Hungarian estates. Pimpinella’s activity clearly reflects the central importance of antiOttoman defence in contemporary papal diplomacy.
