Abstract
This paper reports on the initiation of a research effort to create versatile digital twins of building users, whose virtual agency would enable them to vocally express responses to prevailing conditions, articulate needs, and display disposition to adaptive behavioural actions. To this end, the conceived methodological approach involves the synthesis of methods in i) environmental sensing, ii) theories of human perception, cognition and behaviour, iii) advanced computational modelling, and iv) socially responsible artificial intelligence. The paper provides an overview of the elements and architecture of the proposed environment for the generation, enactment, and utilisation of building users' digital twins and focuses on related ontological developments. The two main use cases of this environment are to assist involved stakeholders involved in a) the design and construction of new buildings and b) the operation and retrofit of existing buildings.
