Abstract

This study compares bachelor students’ experiences at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering(GPK) and the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Informatics (VIK) of the Budapest University ofTechnology and Economics. An anonymous online questionnaire examined perceived workload,teaching clarity and instructor support, feedback, practical learning, community integration,overall satisfaction, and work alongside studies. The convenience sample included currentbachelor students and recent graduates. Respondents at both faculties described substantialworkload pressure, with stronger pressure reported in the VIK subgroup. Practical componentswere evaluated positively and were associated with higher overall satisfaction at both faculties.Feedback was positively associated with satisfaction and perceived workload manageability,while community integration was also related to a more positive overall evaluation of the programme. No detectable difference in workload pressure was found between respondents whoworked alongside their studies and those who did not; however, the association between feedback and satisfaction differed between these subgroups. Because the study is cross-sectional,based on a non-probability sample, and includes two workload indicators with low internalconsistency, the findings are interpreted as exploratory rather than causal or representative. Thepaper identifies practical directions for semester-level workload coordination, transparent andusable feedback, purposeful design of laboratories and projects, and accessible peer-supportpathways in engineering education.
