Abstract

A császári és királyi haditengerészeti légierő mindössze nyolc évig működött. Nagymértékű kiépítése részben az első világháborúnak, de leginkább az olasz hadüzenetnek volt köszönhető. A Monarchia 21 haditengerészeti légibázisa közül a Durazzo kikötőjében, a város 1916 elején történt elfoglalása után felállított támaszpont a legfontosabbak közé tartozott. Az ide települt repülők feladata az otrantói tengerzár és az ellenséges hajóegységek felderítése, valamint a környező antant légibázisok támadása volt. A kumbori légibázisról és az alárendeltségébe tartozó durazzói támaszpontról bevetésekre járó császári és királyi pilótáknak háromszoros antant túlerővel szemben kellett helytállniuk, és a háború végéig megőrizték harckészségüket. Puszta jelenlétükkel jelentős ellenséges erőket vontak el az észak-itáliai front térségéből, megkönnyítve ezzel az ott küzdő bajtársaik harcait. | The Imperial and Royal naval air force only existed for eight years, and its extensive upgrading was, on one hand, the result of the outbreak of the Great War, but primarily of the Italian declaration of war. From the twenty-one naval airbases of the Monarchy, the one built after the occupation of the city at the beginning of 1916 in the harbour of Durazzo, was one of the most important ones. The Imperial and Royal pilots operating from the Kumbor air base and its subordinate base in Durazzo had to withstand a three-fold superior Entente force and they maintained their combat readiness until the end of the war. Their mere presence drew significant enemy forces away from the northern Italian front, thereby easing the burden on their comrades fighting there.
