Abstract

This bibliometric review analyses 173 Scopus-indexed articles (1997 to April 2025) on environmentally conscious consumer behaviour (ECCB) and its links with green finance, using Bibliometrix and VOSviewer for performance analysis and science mapping. It distinguishes everyday consumption choices (eco-friendly goods, energy, food, mobility) from financial decisions (green deposits, loans, ESG products), positioning green finance, including central banks and the ESG strand, as the institutional supply side meeting ECCB demand. Willingness to pay, attitude-behaviour gaps and climate-finance literacy emerge as key pressure points. Output has accelerated since 2019; China leads in volume, the United Kingdom in citation impact, and Hungary ranks in the top eight. Bibliographic coupling reveals four streams: consumer decision factors, industry applications, pro-environmental technology adoption and product lifecycle. The review offers implications for financial institutions, central banks, regulators and marketers, plus a research agenda at the ECCB and green-finance interface.
