Abstract

This study employed bibliometric analysis to explore the relationship between vitamin D and gut microbiota, focusing on how vitamin D impacts health through gut microbiota modulation. Relevant articles from 1997 to 2024 retrieved from the Web of Science were analysed using CiteSpace and VOSviewer, with additional visualisations created in Microsoft Excel and Scimago Graphica. 710 papers were retrieved. The number of articles has steadily increased over the past 27 years. The journals Nutrients and Poultry Science published the most articles. Keyword co-occurrence analysis revealed four key areas: diseases (primarily inflammatory and metabolic), human gut microbiota, microbial components (notably short-chain fatty acids), and mechanisms (immunity, inflammation, etc.). This study highlights the rapid growth of research in this field since 1997, underscoring the potential of vitamin D/VDR signalling to target gut microbiota as a promising strategy for mitigating disease progression, warranting further investigation and attention.
