Abstract

Based on case studies from the literature, the study examines the application areas and objectives of generative design, as well as the resulting changes in product characteristics compared to traditional design. It demonstrates that generative design can be used not only for mass and structural optimization but also to meet other requirements, such as better functional performance or customization. The analysis indicates that generative design can influence a range of interconnected technical, material, geometric, manufacturing, economic, and sustainability characteristics. These findings lay the foundation for a multidimensional comparison of traditional and generative design alternatives in the future.
