Abstract
The aim of this study was to develop a simplified kinematic mechanism for the spatial analysis of ankle and foot motion and to demonstrate a coordinate-based method for determining the displaced position of anatomical reference points. The model was constructed according to the main anatomical relationships of the ankle and foot, with the Talus as the central element connecting the Talocrural, Subtalar and Talonavicular joints. A coordinate system related to the anatomical planes was assigned to the mechanism, and characteristic coordinates were defined for the joint points. Homogeneous coordinate transformation was applied to determine the spatial position of a selected point after a prescribed combined motion. The method was demonstrated for a combined dorsiflexion of 27.5° and eversion of 17°, using the Talonavicular joint point as an example. The resulting coordinates and their differences provide a quantitative description of the spatial displacement caused by the prescribed motion. The results demonstrate that the developed kinematic representation can numerically describe complex ankle motion and compare different motion states based on the position changes of selected kinematic points.
