Abstract
This study examines the risk factors of in-work poverty in Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén County, one of the most disadvantaged regions of Hungary. The research aims to identify how educational attainment, household composition, and spatial accessibility influence the per-capita income of the working population as an indicator of in-work poverty. The analysis is based on a household survey conducted between 2024 and 2025, using multiple linear regression analysis. The results indicate that education has a significant positive effect on income, while household size and distance from the county seat have negative relationships with income. The findings highlight the multidimensional nature of poverty, shaped by structural, demographic, and spatial factors. They underline the importance of education, infrastructure development, and targeted regional policies in reducing social inequalities and mitigating persistent poverty in peripheral areas.
