Abstract

The aim of this review is to present a book published in English (not yet available in Hungarian translation), which focuses on defining and measuring mastery motivation and presents research done in this field. The editors of the book are renowned international researchers regarding the subject, thus the reader can acquire a uniquely complex perspective by reading the book. The target audience of the book is not only the research community, but also education professionals, as the appendix includes the measurement instruments tested and developed in their research on mastery motivation, which are also suitable for measuring young children, preschoolers and school children. It also highlights the importance of the concept through research findings: mastery motivation predicts student achievement. In addition recent research has proved its significance from the point of view of pedagogical design by showing that it can be developed and improved.
