Abstract
Efforts to reconstruct the fortification that once surrounded the city centre of Székesfehérvár began as early as the turn of the 20th century. The first clues were the early modern written and pictorial sources, since the walls were gradually demolished, in many places almost to the ground, from the turn of the 19th century. In recent decades, a number of research projects have been carried out to determine the layout, structure and period of construction of the fortification.
