Abstract
The paper discusses the semantic features of the paradigm associated with non-firsthand evidentiality in the Udmurt language. Applying a qualitative and quantitative analysis an elaborated discussion is provided about the uses of the past evidential forms in contemporary Udmurt. The paper provides details about the functional distribution of the category within the research data and introduces some constructions including such forms. Furthermore, the relationship of the evidential and non-evidential past tenses is briefly discussed, which sheds light on the determining factors in their use other than information source. This may serve as a basis for a more holistic view of Udmurt evidentiality and may result in the reconsideration of its typological classification.
