Abstract
Approaching the 500th anniversary of the Battle of Mohács (1526), it is necessary to census and re-collect all relevant sources. As part of this research, I present Marin Sanudo’s entries in his diary and the dispatches of the ambassadors of the Duchies of Ferrara and Milan, as well as of the Marquisate of Mantua to Venice. These three correspondences also contain sources that escaped the attention of the meticulous Sanudo. The analysis of these archival sources together with the Diarii helps us to understand the events, consequences and European context of the battle. The comparison of the data contained in the texts written at the same time reveals the mechanisms of Renaissance diplomacy and points toward further sources.
