Abstract

Délkelet-Ázsia a világ egyik legheterogénebb térsége: az itt található társadalmak különböző történelmi, politikai, kulturális és gazdasági háttere nagy mértékben megnehezíti a regionális együttműködést. A diplomáciai folyamatokban megtalálható egy, csak a régióra jellemző sajátos konfliktuskezelési mechanizmus, az ASEAN way, amelyet a térségi heterogenitásra építve alkalmaznak a helyi diplomáciai folyamatokban. Jelen tanulmány megvizsgálja a térséget leginkább fenyegető hagyományos és nem hagyományos biztonsági kihívásokat, valamint az ASEAN way szerepét ezekben a konfliktusokban. Összességében elmondható, hogy a mechanizmus működése – számos problémája, valamint a konfliktusok megoldásában is megkérdőjelezett szerepe ellenére – jelenleg is megfigyelhető a Délkelet-ázsiai Nemzetek Szövetségének (Association of Southeast Asian Nations, ASEAN) diplomáciai folyamataiban. | Southeast Asia stands as a region of remarkable diversity, encompassing distinct historical, political, cultural, and economic backgrounds among its societies, which inherently complicates cooperative endeavors. This study delves into the multifaceted security challenges confronting the region, both traditional and non-traditional in nature. In this context, it explores the unique diplomatic approach known as the ‘ASEAN way’, a mechanism tailored to navigate the complexities arising from regional heterogeneity. The ASEAN way, a distinctive facet of Southeast Asian diplomacy, plays a pivotal role in local diplomatic procedures. This study investigates its influence and efficacy in addressing the various challenges that threaten the stability and security of the region. In the course of this exploration, we find that the ASEAN way, while not without its flaws and debates over its role in conflict resolution, continues to be a prominent feature in the diplomatic landscape of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
