Abstract

THREE CORNERS DOWNTOWN HOTEL, BUDAPEST, HUNGARY; ARCHITECT: CSABA NÉMETH Lessons from the conversion and expansion of an office building into a hotel in a world heritage area. Although the building in question was not protected, the streetscape required careful consideration. How to replace or conceal a badly detailed brick and concrete facade in a manner which retains the ribbon window's visual rhythm without conflicting the surrounding aesthetic resulted in a study between horizontal and vertical elements. Later translating into a balancing act of tone, shading and proportions.
