Abstract

The aim of the study is to present the peculiarities and relations of the state socialist Hungarian settlement network development policy with the nationality policy affecting the Croatian (South Slavic) population in Hungary. The author assumes that he cannot find direct connection points, but indirectly seeks to outline the connections. The settlement policy of the seventies and eighties was no longer completely excluded from the development of small villages and border areas. Nevertheless, they benefited from a limited proportion of public investment. The assimilation rate of the local south slavic population was high, which could clearly be explained by the unfavorable socio-economic environment.
