Abstract
Since the 2000s, various social media platforms have become widespread, including profiles run by law enforcement agencies on different social networking sites in Hungary since the 2010s. By using these sites, it is possible to share and obtain information in real time between police organisations and the members of the public. Bilateral communication can be achieved through posts and comments, but in reality, the site administrators of law enforcement units need to find a communication style that is clear and understandable to the widest possible audience. In my research, I analysed posts created on the Instagram profile of the Hungarian Police (MR) over two periods (the first sampling period was completed in the first month of the launch of the profile, and the sampling was repeated a year later) using the methodologies of Instagrammatics and netlinguistics. Based on the results, it was found that an informal language variant exists on the profile of the Hungarian Police, presumably to gain the trust of the citizens.
