Abstract
The study compares preschool education curriculums in Hungary and Slovakia. Both countries have a national core curriculum for preschool education, these are curriculum frameworks. That means both countries provide space for a diversity of pre-school programs. However, the Slovakian program is considerably longer and more detailed than the Hungarian one. In the Slovakian program, the output expectations and requirements are precisely and thoroughly defined. A comparison of the curriculums shows that there seem to be more differences than similarities between them. The two documents show a a considerable difference, which may also have implications for the practice of educating and developing preschool children. There is a fundamental difference in thinking regarding children’s activities (especially play), the development of skills and abilities, and with it the transmission of literacy content. Further analysis may help us to understand how these differences may affect children’s development.
