Abstract
The present study presents briefly the impact of globalization and technological development on the translation industry, within which audiovisual translation has become immensely popular by being intertwined with the entertainment industry. In the world of continuous online multimedia streaming, the popularity of film series is growing, so it is a realistic assumption that translators and subtitlers fail to produce quality work all the time due to the ever-tighter deadlines. We have collected 1,341 examples from seven episodes of three highly popular political drama series on Netflix (Designated Survivor, House of Cards, The West Wing) to illustrate the terminological diversity and challenges, some of which are also part of American culture. Without being exhaustive, the study ends with a possible political mind map, based on the examples presented.
