Abstract
The article describes the state of Csíkszereda military chapelry in 1829 based on the records of the visitation made in the same year by Bishop Miklós Kovács. Csíkszereda – this small country town – gained its importance amidst the other, more populated settlements of the region due to the fact that beginning with 1764 it was the center of the First Székely Infantry Regiment founded by Empress Maria Theresa. The chapelry constituted a quite interesting island in the country with its mostly German-speaking worshipper-circle, coming from all around the Empire and with the relatively big number of intermarriages related to the exclusively Hungarian-speaking and Catholic environment. It also reflected the dichothomy of administration: the country of Csík, subjected to a binary – military and civil – administration was divided also from ecclesiastical point of view.
