Abstract
In the study, the author reviews some Polish cultural periods, in which he highlights the efforts of their development and development into the Polish (literary) language - primarily the activities of the medieval councils in this direction. We are talking about important writers of Polish literature of the 16th century, whose work also featured prominently the defence of the Polish language. At the end of the study, the author presents the characteristics of the Romantic era in a few thoughts, as well as the role of the national language in maintaining national identity.
