Abstract
The article examines Hungarian words which, according to the new etymological dictionary of the Hungarian language (ÚESz.), are more or less likely to be borrowed from the Ukrainian language. Based on the dictionary, we can conclude that there are relatively few loanwords that definitely came from Ukrainian into today’s standard Hungarian. As a result of the close relationship of the Slavic languages and their continuous and mutual influence on one another, in several cases the Ukrainian origin is an alternative—besides the adoption from another Slavic language(s)—which is difficult or even impossible to prove.
