Abstract
A few research is known about the role of parents in mentoring, even though their involvement is essential for success. We interviewed teachers (in the roles of teacher and mentor) about mentoring in schools and the parents’ role in it (N=45). Research questions captured 1) interpretations of mentoring, 2) supportive and inhibiting factors in parental involvement in mentoring, and 3) mentors' attitudes. Results highlighted the diversity of teachers' interpretations and the very weak role of parents in these. Teachers need more support from professionals in dealing with parental issues. Among the teachers’ attitudes (official-distancing, empathic-paternalistic), one (the partner attitude) sees parents as a partner, who are a resource for the school mentoring.
