Abstract
Antal Reguly (1819–1858) was a traveler and a prominent figure in Hungarian scholarship, known primarily for his linguistic and ethnographic work among Fin-no-Ugric peoples, though he also made significant contributions in several other fields. In September 2018, the ongoing project “Regulyversum”, funded by the NRDI, was launched to digitize and publish Reguly’s legacy online. His legacy includes a wealth of valuable manuscripts: field notes across various scientific dis-ciplines, travel diaries, and personal correspondence. Of particular importance are Reguly’s letters to his parents (his father was a lawyer at the Cistercian Abbey of Zirc) and to Ferdinand Villax, the Abbot of Zirc. The abbot, a relative and one of Reguly’s primary supporters, connected the young adventurer with the learned Catholic clergy. This presentation aims to illustrate, based on several years of work, the challenges faced in processing these manuscripts and the steps taken to over-come them.
