Abstract

This article presents some unknown aspects of the history of the cooperation between Hungarian and Polish emigrations in France in the 18th Century. Apart from the good relations between their elites, especially those between King Stanislas Leszczyński and Count Ladislas Berchény, it concerns the Polish presence in the hussar regiments of the French royal army. These units were originally intended to employ Hungarian emigrants, but from the second half, they welcomed soldiers from different nations, among them many Poles. According to the archival sources of the Service Historique de la Défense (Vincennes), we can reconstruct certain careers that illustrate well the Hungarian-Polish collaboration in France.
