It is such a special practice oriented initiative that allows students to gain in depth knowledge about the world of work already during their university years. Students can participate in the various work processes and can spend by far more time practicing professional competences. Students are jointly educated by the school and the enterprise since theoretical knowledge is imparted to them at school (in our case, in the higher educational institution) while practical expertise is provided by the cooperating business. Students partake in a programme provided by both parties in almost equal shares and receive some remuneration for the whole training period under a students’ work contract. This remuneration shall amount to at least 15 per cent of the prevailing minimum wage. Dual training programmes are expected to churn out highly qualified professionals to enrich the labour market and alleviate the shortage of labour. We summarise the legal background of the dual training programme in detail. Participating students are foreseen to have higher chances in gaining employment. In our research, we examined the characteristics of dual training programmes through the example of the one running at the Zalaegerszeg College of Business Administration of the Budapest Business School. The College being the first institute of economic sciences to launch a dual training programme is a relevant choice. In summary, it can be stated that the system operates well and has already undergone a spectacular development for the past three years as far as the number of participating students or that of the partner businesses is considered. Feedback is positive from students and businesses alike. KEYWORDS dual training, legistlation, competence, higher education of economic
