Abstract
Probation supervision has long been a part of the Hungarian criminal justice system. However, the earlier rules were underdeveloped and raised numerous practical problems, which kept the institution at the center of legislative attention – and continues to do so to this day. There have been significant changes both in legislation and in institutional arrangements over time, which have intended to improve the effectiveness of probation supervision not only in the juvenile criminal justice system but also in the practice of adult offenders. Probation supervision can therefore be examined from many perspectives, but this study focuses primarily on its institutional changes.
