Abstract

In Contemporary German, Romanian and Hungarian literature, a tendency of multilingualism representations can be shown, whose different forms can be grasped in the poetic and stylis-tic structure of the works. The paper focuses on the question of how the selected prose works (Cätälin Dorian Florescu: Der kurze Weg nach Hause, Radu Juculescu: Povesti- rile mameibätrine, and Sändor Zsigmond Papp: Gyülölet) stage latent multilingualism. Methodo-logically, the emergence and presentation of the Romanian, Hungarian and German lan-guages will be examined, and these phenomena will be compared. These novels recurrently stage latent multilingualism as a thematically and poetically emphasised element, and thereby a heterogeneous or hybrid identity and culture is also brought to the fore. Literary multilin-gualism research and transculturalism serve as a theoretical background, and the article shows that the stagings of latent multilingualism can also be interpreted as cultural transfer phenomena.
