Abstract
A unique, large-scale cast glass facade developed for a desert-inspired public building. Employing a double-skin facade which features highly sculptural, translucent borosilicate cast glass panels, creating a striking contrast with the surrounding landscape. Large borosilicate glass panels, chosen for low thermal expansion, clarity, and suitability for the open pour manufacturing process. A bottomsupported steel framing system with outriggers minimizes load transfer to the primary structure. The complex geometry and open pour manufacturing, involving melting and annealing, presented significant engineering challenges, dead-load support, wind load resistance, and structural integrity. Extensive testing validated the design, pushing existing standards. Demonstrating the feasibility of innovative cast glass façades and achieves a unique aesthetic.
