Abstract
This paper explores the history of the historiographical and political function of the Stalin– Hitler analogy and offers a critique of the analogy itself. It highlights the fundamental importance of identifying differences in comparative historical analysis, because these are the characteristics that make the phenomenon what it is. Outlining the complexity of systemic and individual differences can enrich the theoretical and historiographical content of the analogy.
