Abstract

A tanulmány bemutatja a „forradalom” szó használatának történetét. Az újkor kezdetén önmagába visszatérő mozgást jelentett, majd a 17. században jelentése lassan változni kezdett. A szó – a felvilágosodás optimizmusának, haladásba vetett hitének köszönhetően – a 18. században rendkívül népszerűvé vált. Ettől kezdve a polgárháborúkat és a szabadságharcokat nevezték forradalomnak. A 20. században a forradalom fogalmának használatával legitimizálták a politikai erőszak legkülönbözőbb fajtáit. I This study outlines the history of the word “revolution”. At the beginning of the modern age, its meaning was “revolving movement”; then, in the 17th century, its meaning began to change. Thanks to the Enlightenment’s belief in progress, the word became more and more popular throughout the 18th century. From the end of this century, the civil wars and independence wars received a new name: revolution. In the 20th century, different kinds of political violence were legitimized by the use of the word “revolution”.
