Abstract

Jelen tanulmány Michael Oakeshott brit filozófus liberalizmushoz való viszonyát tárgyalja. Oakeshottot a konzervatívok és a liberálisok is „saját halottjuknak” tekintették, így felmerül a kérdés, hogy kiknek van több joguk gondolati örökségéhez. Ez a vita annak ellenére zajlik, hogy Oakeshott egy esszéje címében is jelezte, hová tartozik (Konzervatívnak lenni). Az alábbi írás bemutatja, hogy milyen érvek alapján nevezték liberálisnak Oakeshottot, és miért állnak ezek gyenge talajon. Oakeshott saját korának liberálisaival (is) vitázott, legfőbb előfeltevéseiket nem fogadta el. I This study examines the British philosopher Michael Oakeshott’s relation to liberalism. It was believed that Oakeshott would be provided “funeral honors” by both liberals and conservatives, so the question arises, which of these two are more entitled to the legacy of his thoughts. This quarrel goes on despite the fact that Oakeshott indicated in one of his essay’s title, where he belongs to (On Being Conservative). This essay outlines what arguments liberals put forward in order to claim Oakeshott one of their own, and why these arguments leave a lot to be desired. Oakeshott criticized his contemporary liberals (among others), and did not accept their primary presuppositions.
