Abstract

This article compares post-communist political transformation in Central Europe, the Baltic states, and the Balkans. It examines the historical and cultural determinants of democratization, different transition scenarios, constitutional choices concerning executive power, and the development of party systems, demonstrating that no uniform model of transformation emerged across the region.
